How do you spend your free time?

I like to bake bread and pastries, and to spend time with my dog. To be honest, programming was always my hobby in my free time, and now it's a full-time thing. Having a database startup is very intensive work. I'm trying to not program so much, but I've been doing this for so long that after work, in my free time, I still do the same thing. I'm starting to fill my free time with cooking good food, baking, spending more time with family and animals, and going outdoors more. I live in such a nice area, with the water, and I don't go outside enough.

I have a ton of hobbies. I'm a very curious person, and I tend to find something interesting and think, "I want to try that." That has led to quite a mixture of things over the years: from soldering to gardening, carving, and spending time with animals. Last year, I learned to kitesurf. And I never stop doing new things.

How do you spend your free time?

My free time is just as varied as my professional time. There's no ambiguity there, at least. I need diversity there too, to discover new things and keep learning, a little bit like in my job. I've practiced a lot of dance since I was very little, that's probably the central foundation. I do yoga, singing, volleyball, indoor climbing. I also really like being outdoors, so I have a van, I travel around with the van in nature, and hiking. Nature is very important. I need, since I'm quite hyper-connected for my job, to disconnect afterwards, to take a step back, and reconnect instead with nature and other kinds of places, people, sharing.

I spend time with my family, I love music and going to concerts, so I travel quite a bit for concerts. A bit of travel, a bit of concerts, a lot of family.

Outside of databases, I try to clear my head a bit by doing sports, mountain biking in particular. Otherwise, spending time with my family.

Outside of tech, how do you spend your time?

I live in a small village in the middle of France, so I have quite a few community activities. Notably I'm involved with a château where we run cultural activities and initiatives around food, specifically what's called food social security: how do we make sure everyone can eat their fill with healthy products while farmers are properly compensated. So that has nothing to do with tech. I deliberately try to do something other than computing in my free time.

How do you spend your free time?

I'm married, so a lot of my free time is spent with my wife. I also enjoy sculpture and have a personal ambition of becoming a sculptor someday. It's a completely different creative outlet from software, and I find that balance important. Reading is another big part of my life. I've always loved books, and I spend a lot of time reading across a wide range of topics. And, of course, I enjoy spending time with friends. Those are probably the main things I do.

I spend some of my free time on IT as well because I enjoy it, and I have plenty of other projects that drive me. The rest of the time is my private life. And that's how it should be.

Not much free time lately. But otherwise, in my free time, I try to improve, to keep studying databases. That's what's occupying me right now. Soon I'm going to start learning a new language. This year, it'll be Georgian.

Running and hiking. Switzerland is very well suited to that, the forests and the mountains... that is one of the reasons I stayed there too.
